A Local School’s Grade 2 Class Comes To Visit!

Wednesday, January 25th was a VERY snowy day. We were actually surprised the schools were not closed for the day! Surprised, but happy. Because we had a special activity planned for the day!

Ms McIntyre, a wonderful teacher from Jarvis Elementary School, had booked a group painting activity at the studio that day for her Grade 2 class. It was our very first time receiving a whole class for a program or an event at the studio. We prepared the space, tried to plan so that everything would be smooth and run perfectly, etc. So we were happy, after planning and preparing, that our friends were braving the weather to come have fun with us!

At 11:45, 19 grade 2 students came in with their coats, their boots, their snow pants, mittens and tuques, with their teacher and assistant. Low coat racks were provided, a space to take off the boots, and Mel led the group to our space in the downstairs section of the studio, where tables had been prepared with all the necessary material.

Ms McIntyre had picked a snowmen design. Mel started by teaching step by step how to paint the background, then the snowy hills. Kids learned to mix colours directly on the canvas, how to hold and use different types of paint brushes, etc.

When the basic shapes of the snow men were painted, each student was invited to personalize it by choosing which accessories to add, and the colours they wanted to use. We got top hats, berets, ear muffs, scarves, snow babies, snowmen with flowy hair, etc. No limit to the imagination of children!

After a little bit over an hour of fun with paint, our friends were ready to leave. They left their canvases to dry and walked back to the studio and Ms McIntyre came back a couple of days later to pick up everybody’s masterpiece.

It was such a great feeling to have the chance to host a whole class from the neighboring school! We are part of the same small community and creating those ties is so important and meaningful. We are looking forward to meeting more classes and groups at our studios! Make sure to contact us if you’d like to know more about programs and workshops we can offer!

Kids’ Art Exploration: Letting Your Creativity Soar To New Heights

Art Exploration is an invitation for our young artists to come and explore in a more personal way a variety of artistic medium.

Usually, our regular Paint or Craft events feature a specific project to realize with precise instructions to follow. However, the Art Exploration format leaves more space for the participants to work on their own ideas and projects. The instructor will be there to launch things, and then guide and assist if and when needed.

A New Youth Vocal Ensemble Program!

Singing is, in itself, a great activity! But singing with a group is its own very special form of art! It helps singers develop a whole other set of vocal and musical skills while sharing incredible moments with other singers.

This is why we are so happy to bring back the opportunity for young singers to participate in our Youth Vocal Ensemble. This is a performing ensemble of young singers, in which participants will perform solos as well as in a group, singing in unison and/or exploring vocal harmonies.

Everything Is More Fun With A Song And A Dance!

Grace, Kalila, Wren, Evelyn and Lizzie (and Ariana, not on this picture) are preparing a special Christmas song!

What combines singing, acting, dancing, expression, group work, discipline – and total fun and a dash of craziness, for about an hour an a half every week?

That’s right, our Youth Musical Theatre class!

We have had an amazing first few months this fall, and our little group presented a very appreciated number at our Play It Forward showcase on Dec. 3rd. We are now looking ahead, as the new session starts in January, and we are opening the doors for any young person who is interested in participating!

Story Time With Santa, an Annual Tradition At Lupton Street Studios!

Christmas time will be here faster than you think! We are already thinking of fun activities you and your kids can do for that wonderful season!

Last year, we had a very special afternoon that was a great success, even with all the restrictions that we had to follow then. We were lucky enough to get in contact with Santa and he agreed to come for a whole afternoon to read stories to the littles at our studio!

Santa told his stories, answered the kids’ questions, and it was amazing to celebrate this special time together in such a way with people from the community!

You all know how it is. Christmas is coming and we are all frantically trying to think about the best presents to offer to everyone. But do kids always need more toys, does your partner need that last useless electronic gadget, do you need another dust-gathering trinket in your living room?

Giving should give joy to the giver and to the receiver. It’s amazing when the present offered brings joy, not only for the few minutes right after it was unwrapped, but for many months afterward, and even for a lifetime.

How about offering somebody you love, a session of learning and creating at Lupton Street Studios?

There’s a vast variety to choose from. Just explore our website to see all the different options, from various instruments to arts & crafts to musical theatre… Different formats are tailored to everybody’s needs or preferences… You can always call us and ask if something you’d like to offer isn’t already listed, we can accommodate a lot of things!
